An end-of-semester message from Dean Maioni
Dear members of the Arts community,
December 7 marksÌýthe last day of classes of the Fall 2020 semester. Congratulations to everyone for having made this semester -- Â鶹AV’s first to be delivered primarily remotely – a good success. We are all proud of the Faculty of Arts community for such an accomplishment.
I know this year has been challenging. We’ve had to adapt to learning and working at a virtual campus, and we are all missing the in-person connection with fellow students, faculty, and staff members. However, it is thanks to the unwavering collaboration of the Arts community that we’ve been able work and learn in a safe, remote environment. You have all demonstrated strength and resilience during this difficult time, and I am grateful to all of you for your hard work.
We anticipate that Montreal’s red alert status will still be in place until at least January 11, 2021. As such, the Faculty of Arts will begin the Winter 2021 semester by continuing to adhere to the university’s operational guidelines to ensure everyone’s health and safety. However, as both the Principal and the Provost have noted, we must now begin responsibly preparing how to transition from our temporary measures to co-existing with COVID-19. The Faculty of Arts and the university are working tirelessly to plan for the gradual return of in-person activities on campus, for Fall 2021 and beyond.
As we near the end of what has been a year unlike any other, we are about to usher in a new one that holds great significance to the Â鶹AV community, as we begin the 2021 celebrations for the university’s bicentennial. I hope that Â鶹AV’s two-hundredth anniversary provides an opportunity for us all to reflect on the university’s past and dream big about its future third century. As we look forward to 2021, I hope you will all take time out during this holiday season relax, recharge, and reflect on all that you have accomplished this year. I look forward to seeing all of you upon our eventual return to campus. Best wishes for your continued health and well-being in 2021!
With warmest regards,
Antonia Maioni
