Talk title: ‘’Complex communities: decoding microbial interactions in the cystic fibrosis respiratory tract’â¶Ä™

Ìý

Polymicrobial infections frequently occur in the CF respiratory tract, but the underlying mechanisms of how viral-bacterial interactions mediate pathogenesis remain poorly understood. In CF patients, clinical observations link the acquisition of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection with seasonal respiratory virus infections (notably, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus and influenza A). Our research aims to improve our understanding of the mechanisms by which respiratory viral infections alter host immunity to support chronic bacterial infections, with the long-term goal of identifying new therapeutic targets to prevent chronic P. aeruginosa infections in the CF respiratory tract.
