Geneviève R. Painter appointed interim director of the CHRLP

The Â鶹AV Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism is delighted to announce that Ms Genevieve Painter has been appointed interim Executive Director of the Centre, effective August 11, 2008.

Ms Painter spent several years working with non-governmental organisations in London, UK. She acted as Advocacy and Policy Manager for WOMANKIND Worldwide, one of the leading women’s human rights and development organisations. Also in London, she was the Gender Policy Officer for One World Action and worked as a researcher for the Gender and Development Network.

Ms Painter later was an advocate for Human Rights Watch, first in their New York Office and then in Brussels, focussing on war crimes and gender violence in armed conflict. Until recently, she worked for the law firm of Dionne, Gertler, Schulze in Montreal. Ms Painter holds a BCL/LLB with great distinction from the Faculty of Law of Â鶹AV.

She earlier had graduated magna cum laude from the honors program in international relations at Wellesley College (Massachusetts), spending one year in exchange at the London School of Economics. She received further training from the International Human Rights Academy of Utrecht University (Netherlands) and the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University.

The Faculty of Law joins the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism in congratulating Ms Painter and in wishing her a warm welcome.
