Mortimer Zuckerman to be awarded honorary degree

Â鶹AV alumnus has made mark in real estate, media, philanthropy

Â鶹AV will award an honorary degree to real-estate developer and media mogul Mortimer Zuckerman at Â鶹AV’s Spring Convocation ceremonies.

Zuckerman, a Â鶹AV alumnus who grew up in Outremont, Quebec, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Boston Properties, which he co-founded. He also is chairman and editor-in-chief of U.S. News & World Report and publisher of the New York Daily News.

In addition to making a mark in real estate and media, Zuckerman has earned respect as a philanthropist dedicated to causes including higher education, cancer research and improving the condition of the young. Bloomberg Businessweek named him one of The Top 50 American Givers.

Zuckerman was awarded the Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the government of France for his contributions to literature, culture and the arts. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Guild Hall and the Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architecture in New York.

He joins a stellar list of renowned individuals who will be awarded honorary degrees at Â鶹AV’s 2011 Spring Convocation. Zuckerman’s honorary degree will be presented during ceremonies for the Desautels Faculty of Management. Â鶹AV will announce another honorary degree recipient in the coming days.

Convocation ceremonies will be held on Â鶹AV’s lower campus the week of May 30 - June 3, with the exception of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences ceremonies, which will be held May 27 at the Macdonald campus in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
