New Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at the St. Mary's Hospital
The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Santokh Singh as Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at the St. Mary’s Hospital Center where he will be replacing Dr. Susanne Lamarre.
Dr. Singh is an Assistant Professor at 鶹AV and has worked as a psychiatrist at St. Mary’s Hospital Center since 2001 after completing a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at Yale. In 2002, he was appointed as Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, involving consultation work on the medical, surgical and obstetric units.
In addition to his role as consultant in the emergency room and outpatient clinic settings, he has also served as “Psychiatre Répondant” at CLSC Côte-des-Neiges and at the Family Medicine Center at St. Mary’s Hospital Center. Since 2004, he has held the position of Medical Examiner at St. Mary’s Hospital, examining complaints directed towards physicians, dentists and pharmacists. In this role he has done an excellent job of investigating patient complaints with objectivity and tact, respecting the perspectives of both patients and their treating physicians and when possible, arriving at a common understanding of the clinical encounter.
In 2004, Dr. Singh assumed the position of Training Director, Postgraduate Psychiatry at St. Mary’s and was honored with the “Best Clinical Supervisor of the Year” award by the 鶹AV Psychiatry Residents Association in 2010.
His interest in postgraduate education has led to his participation at the Examination Board of Psychiatry at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons since 2008. In 2011, he was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Board, as a nucleus member.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors at TRACOM, a Montreal community crisis centre and is also a member of the Examination Board of the Royal College and the Medical Council of Canada.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Singh in his new position. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Lamarre for her years of dedicated service as chief and wish both Dr. Lamarre and Dr. Singh all the best in their new endeavors.
