Peter Duffield named Chairman of the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation

The Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation today announced that Montreal business leader and philanthropist Peter Duffield was selected as Chairman of the Foundation at its recent Annual General Meeting. A former Westmount City Councillor and current CEO of Duffield and Associates, he has been a Director of the RVH Foundation since 2003.

“We’re extraordinarily pleased that Peter has accepted this leadership position at such a critical time in the Royal Victoria Hospital’s development,” said Paulanne Jushkevich, President of the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation. “Peter’s experience, dynamism and deep roots in our city and our hospital will be invaluable as we continue to raise funds to build the new Royal Victoria Hospital on the Glen as part of the Â鶹AV Health Centre (MUHC). With his help and the support of our Board and the broader community we will change Montreal and launch a new era in health care."

The Hon. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the MUHC, added his congratulations on Duffield’s appointment: “Thanks to our Foundations and our generous community, the Â鶹AV Health Centre will build on its heritage of excellence and create a new model of patient care, research and teaching for generations to come. Under Peter’s leadership, the RVH Foundation and our partners in the $300-million The Best Care for Life campaign will celebrate the concretization of our vision at the Glen Campus this December.”

Duffield expressed his enthusiasm for his new post, saying, “I am honoured to accept the Chairmanship of the RVH Foundation at this truly historic time and to be working with so many talented volunteers as well as the dedicated men and women whom make up the RVH. I look forward to helping rally our community around the construction of the new Royal Victoria Hospital at the Glen Campus, and to helping communicate to them the historic importance of this project for ourselves, our children and for future generations.”

Peter Duffield received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Â鶹AV in 1959. He spent 23 years working for Dupont Canada in a variety of positions culminating as Operations Vice President for the Fibres Group. Since 1983 he has been a consultant with his own company, has run other companies in a variety of industrial sectors and has been on the board of a number of large companies as well as cultural and community organizations. Mr. Duffield, a former city councillor of Westmount has been a member of the of the MUHC Foundation since 2006 and is currently Chair of their Human Resources Committee. Duffield has been a member of the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation since 2003 and was elected Chairman in September 2009, and is also a Best Care for Life Community Campaign Executive Committee Member.

About The Best Care for Life Campaign

The $300-million Best Care for Life campaign is an unprecedented philanthropic effort aimed at raising the funds needed to complete the Â鶹AV Health Centre’s Redevelopment Project on the Glen, Mountain and Lachine campuses as well as the Capital Development Plan.  Under the leadership of campaign chairman John A. Rae and conducted as a partnership of the Foundations of the Â鶹AV Health Centre, including the Best Care for Children Campaign led by the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, the campaign has already raised more than $210 million.
