Stuart “Kip” Cobbett receives James A. Robb Award
On February 4, 2014, during an evening reception held in the Common Room, the Faculty of Law presented Stuart H. “Kip” Cobbett, BCL’72, with the James A. Robb Award to honour his exceptional work as a volunteer at the Faculty of Law and, more broadly, at Â鶹AV.
The event was attended by Principal Suzanne Fortier, Provost Anthony C. Masi, Chancellor Arnold Steinberg, Dean Daniel Jutras, Mr. Norm Steinberg, Chair of the Faculty Advisory Board, as well as by Mr. James Robb himself.
In his remarks, Dean Daniel Jutras observed that “there is an historical connection between Kip Cobbett and Charles Dewey Day, Â鶹AV’s longest serving Chair of the Board, and Â鶹AV’s first Chancellor, 150 years ago. Over that period, half of Â鶹AV’s Chairs of the Board and Chancellors have been lawyers and alumni from our Faculty of Law, and their service to the University spans 100 of these 150 years. The Faculty of Law is very proud of this extraordinary contribution to the University’s governance and community. As an alumnus of the Faculty, Kip beautifully continues this tradition of service with poise, wisdom, humor and generosity.“
Mr Cobbett, who has served as Chairman of Â鶹AV's Board of Governors’ since 2010, is also a with Canadian law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP. As a Â鶹AV graduate, Mr. Cobbett has a long-standing relationship with the University. He has been an active member of the Â鶹AV Alumni Association for many years. He was lecturer in the Faculty of Law from 1976 to 1985. He is also a governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation and serves on several boards of directors.
