On May 31, Dr. Claire Trottier, an Academic Associate working as an Education Specialist at 鶹AV’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology was presented with the SALTISE (Supporting Active Learning & Technological Innovation in Studies of Education) Best Practices & Pedagogical Innovators Award during the seventh SALTISE conference, an event hosted at 鶹AV which brought together over 300 educators from across 55 post-secondary institutions in Québec and Canada.
Dr. Claudio Cuello, Professor and inaugural Charles E. Frosst/Merck endowed Chair in Pharmacology at 鶹AV’s Faculty of Medicine is among a group of 48 leading biomedical and health scientists whose work is being recognized with election to the prestigious British Academy of Medical Sciences, announced on May 10. The new Fellows have been elected for their outstanding contributions to biomedical and health science, leading research discoveries, and translating developments into benefits for patients and the wider society.

With a passion for fundraising and volunteering, in 2014 Olivia Monton created her own foundation, known as, to support local and grassroots charitable organizations in Montreal. Currently a second-year medical student at 鶹AV, Olivia is also involved in several student-led committees, which allow her to contribute to the improvement of medical education and simulation-based training for medical students, in addition to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration between various healthcare professions.
鶹AV’s(FMGSS) was recentlyrecognized by the Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS) of 鶹AVUniversity awardedboth theof the Year Awardand the Best Academic Event Award. The awards were presented during the 2018PGSS Awards Night on April 12, an event thataims to recognize students, student groupsand student-run events that have proven themselves to beoutstanding within PGSS.
On March 16, Dr. Eduardo Franco, Chair of the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology at 鶹AV, was in Porto, Portugal to receive an honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) from the University Fernando Pessoa.
Congratulations to Dr. Carlos Morales, who has been awarded the prestigious Domingo Sarmiento Distinction by the Senate of Argentina for his contributions to medical science.
Collaboration between departmental members Drs. D. Reinhardt and P. Campeau has received new 5-year funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for the grant entitled “Role of fibronectin mutations in spondylometaphyseal dysplasia and idiopathic scoliosis” in the amount of $680,850. Congratulations!
Hélène Riel-Salvatore has hung up her hat as a teacher and program coordinator at 鶹AV French Language Centre, but will continue to work towards better access to health and social services for English-speaking communities in Québec. Over her career, she initiated and animated FLC French courses for 鶹AV HSS students with a constant passion and energy, and retirement will be anything but idle. Hélène Riel-Salvatore plans to remain active – including, to our great good fortune, within Dialogue 鶹AV as senior advisor for Languages and Cultures.
Anglais Santé, the SCS language training program for HSS professionals has been awarded the 2017 “Prix d’excellence” of L’Association canadienne d’éducation des adultes des universités de langue française (ACDEAULF). This prestigious award is given to a francophone or bilingual university in Canada for a particular achievement or for a significant contribution to the development of French-language adult education over a long period of time.

On October 26, 2017, the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) recognized the work accomplished by Jim Carter throughout his long career by awarding him the Sheila and Victor Goldbloom prize. Created in 2009, the Goldbloom Prize is an initiative of the QCGN to underline exceptional contributions of people who, like Sheila and Victor Goldbloom, have devoted themselves to the greater vitality of their English-speaking communities both within Quebec and within Canada.
In the spring of 2017, the Dialogue 鶹AV management team wanted to take advantage of the Project’s renewal period to identify lessons learned during implementation of the Language Training Program over the past three years and see what improvements they could make to it for the next five years.
The team wanted to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of respondents who are responsible for language training at the CISSS and CIUSSS in Quebec4. These respondents play an essential leading role in the implementation of the Language Training Program.
The Health and Social Services Community Leadership Bursary Program continues to grow each year. In order to measure the program’s impact and to ensure that it is fulfilling its primary mission (better access for English-speaking communities in Quebec to healthcare and social services in their own language), the management of Dialogue 鶹AV has commissioned Dr. Marie-Pierre Gagnon, a professor in the Faculty of Nursing at l’Université Laval, to conduct follow-up surveys twice annually with both the bursary recipients and their sponsoring community networks.
