On Aug. 17, 2011, everything changed for Jonathan Goodman (MBA'94).

The aggressive, hard-driving executive - at the time the CEO of hugely successful drug distributor Paladin Labs Inc. - had just sealed one of Paladin's biggest acquisitions. Taking a celebratory bicycle ride with fellow employees in the hills north of Montreal, he fell off his bike and hit his head. Despite wearing a helmet, the result was a serious brain injury.

Nothing so became Herb Gray (BCom'52) than the manner in which he left the House of Commons, where he was the third-longest serving parliamentarian in our history.

... Gray was proud to be Canada’s first Jewish cabinet minister. He grew up in a Canada that was not always kind to people of his ilk, but he succeeded nonetheless, studying commerce at 鶹AV and law at Osgoode Hall.

Tanya Graber, a resident of Switzerland, researched fashion retailer Aldo on the Internet before her vacation to New York City.

“We saw these handbags and we wanted to buy these handbags,” Graber said, gesturing to the camel-colored leather model on the checkout counter at the company’s store on Lexington Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

... The retailer has a value of $1.7 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, making Aldo’s executive chairman, Aldo Bensadoun (BCom'64, LLD'12), a billionaire.

ԳٰԱܰJonathan Goodman (MBA'94)and Mark Beaudet built Paladin Labs Inc. from zero into a $3.2-billion international pharmaceuticals distributor in only 19 years.

Now Goodman, chairman of Paladin Labs when it was sold to Pennsylvania-based Endo Health Solutions Inc. on Feb. 28, has founded Knight Therapeutics Inc. in Montreal.

Wearable devices are just starting to take off and global electronics companies are racing to release smartwatches ahead of rivals to capture a bigger slice of the emerging next-generation market.

... LG plans to introduce a smartwatch jointly developed with Google. The G Watch will be released sometime between April and June this year. President Park Jong-seok (IMPM'07)of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said that the opportunity to work with Google "was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out all stops in both design and engineering."

Türk Telekom, the leading communications and convergence technology company in Turkey, announces the restructuring of its leadership by combining the roles of the Group CEO and the General Manager into a single CEO position. Rami Aslan (BCom'94, MBA'97), who has been serving on the board of Türk Telekom and as CEO of Oger Telecom, is appointed as CEO of Türk Telekom as of December 10, 2013. In addition to his current roles, he will be appointed as a member of Türk Telekom Executive Committee and member of the boards of Avea and TTNet.

Ingénieure en bâtiment, Nadine Léonard (EMBA'11) a été promue vice-présidente régionale l'an dernier chez Pomerleau. Fraîchement installée à Toronto, on lui a confié le mandat d'y gérer le nouveau bureau de l'entreprise québécoise de construction.

«J'avais un vif intérêt à conquérir un nouveau marché, à traverser la barrière culturelle pour que l'entreprise puisse prendre de l'essor et diversifier ses activités, affirme-t-elle. Je venais d'ailleurs de terminer mon mémoire de maîtrise sur le développement de Pomerleau en terres nord-américaines.»

Ivanhoé Cambridge, la filiale immobilière de la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, a embauché Mario Morroni à titre de vice-président exécutif, stratégie et allocation du capital. Il quittera ses fonctions au conseil d'administration d'Ivanhoé Cambridge avant son entrée en poste le 13 janvier. M. Morroni, qui possède un baccalauréat en administration des affaires de l'Université Concordia, est actuellement pdg de l'Association de bienfaisance et de retraite des policiers et policières de la Ville de Montréal.
