By improving your financial literacy, you can make the most of your money, writes MoneySense Executive Editor Lisa Hannam. The guidance of experts is a good place to start, and the digital magazine and financial media website places the 鶹AV Personal Financial Essentials (MPFE) course on its list of the best free personal finance resources available to Canadians. Offered by 鶹AV in collaboration with The Globe and Mail and RBC Future Launch, the course covers a wide range of topics, each taught by 鶹AV Desautels professors.
After a decade marred by bribery and corruption scandals, the Montreal-headquartered engineering firm SNC-Lavalin Group is changing its name to AtkinsRéalis. This rebrand demonstrates the company’s desire to move beyond its past transgressions, even if it wasn’t explicitly framed that way, according Prof. Karl Moore. The firm’s former name has been tarnished by scandals in Canada, Libya and India, but its new name signals that it wants to break with its troubled past.
鶹AV’s Desautels Faculty of Management is launching an online version of its top-ranked Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) program. The 18-month online offering will feature the same high-quality curriculum and content as the in-person, full-time program, providing a balance of advanced statistics, technology and business strategy, and giving students a broad range of practical skills to turn data-driven insights into actionable solutions.
Bloomberg Businessweek has released their 2023-2024 MBA rankings, with 鶹AV Desautels placing at #2 in Canada. The rankings were based on four major factors: compensation, learning, networking and entrepreneurship.
Today’s leaders don’t only face managerial and business challenges. There are geopolitical, social, and environmental obstacles too. The way they respond will define their organization’s success. In 2003, Prof. Henry Mintzberg provided a framework for leadership in the modern global economy when he published “The Five Mindsets of a Manager” in the Harvard Business Review.
鶹AV students are working with Costa Rican non-governmental organizations to safeguard howler monkeys from road hazards. Through their research, they’ve created a "Mono-SOS" website for accident reporting in partnership with a local NGO, SalveMonos.
Canada’s federal and provincial governments have pledged $200 billion to fight climate change—but failed to spend anywhere near that. And corporations often commit to climate initiatives, but there’s no requirement they actually do so.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Webb (MBA’93), a valued member of the Desautels International Advisory and Advancement Board. His deep ties to 鶹AV and dedicated involvement in the Canadian rugby community have left an indelible mark.
Sustainability can create value for a business and make it more resilient. More and more, shareholders are demanding that businesses be more sustainable, and sustainability consultants help them to it. Thibaut Millet (MBA’00) is one of them. He has a deep history in the field, and has been helping clients develop sustainability programs for more than fifteen years. A partner at EY and the longtime leader of its Climate Change and Sustainability Practice, Millet was named one of the Top 25 Sustainability Consultants for 2023 by The Consulting Report.
Work from home changes leadership. How do you acculturate people if you’re not all in the same place? Mentorship is important in an evolving workplace, said Prof. Karl Moore on the Six Pixels of Separation podcast. But it’s a two-way street. “I have some mentors that are older than me, and it doesn’t occur to them to ask my advice,” says Moore.
Poets & Quants has named its MBAs to Watch list for 2023, and three Desautels graduates made the cut. The magazine and website asks business schools to nominate some of their top students for consideration for the list, and from those nominations, 135 students have been selected as MBAs to Watch. They represent many of the world’s top universities, and MBAs to Watch have often gone on to careers at top consulting firms. This year, we celebrate 鶹AV’s Matias Font, Shahriar (Sha) Asadi and Larry Komrower for being selected!

Technologies like artificial intelligence are changing the way we shop. But change can be intimidating, and people can be reluctant to adopt it. The Bensadoun School of Retail Management’s Retail Innovation Lab provides such an example. At the highly automated Couche-Tard location on 鶹AV campus, cameras in the store allow customers to make frictionless purchases that don’t require bar codes to be scanned. Still, many people don’t want to use them.
