As you know, 鶹AV is committed to helping contain the propagation of COVID-19 and fully supports the Quebec government’s decision to close all schools and universities for the two-week period ending March 29. We all must do our part to “flatten the curve” so that health services are not overwhelmed by the resulting patient load.

Students from the 鶹AV Faculty of Medicine’sSchool of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD)have once again been busy organizing a series of events for spring 2019. Working under the guidance of, Assistant Professor at the SCSD, two groups of students, each comprised of five final year Master’s students in Speech-Language Pathology, have developed events geared towards raising public awareness of often-overlooked issues related to swallowing and voice.

Want to gain experience in research?

The PoP Lab (Prof. Nadig) is recruiting volunteers to work on 3 projects.

1. Video coding of music and play-based therapy sessions with children with autism,

2. a study examining what aspects of social interaction help typically-developing toddlers learn words, using skype interactions as well as being an observer of interactions between adults,

3. A community-based project on job coach support to increase employment success in adults with autism or intellectual disability (French fluency required).

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on March 28 students from theSchool of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD)in 鶹AV’s Faculty of Medicine will be holding aevent open to the public in collaboration with the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) aimed at increasing awareness of the connection between dysphagia and dementia.

Sue Harrison is now the person in charge of the French courses for 鶹AV HSS students at 鶹AV French Language Centre (FLC) replacing Hélène Riel-Salvatore, who recently retired from her position. Previously, Sue was part of the winningteam behind Dialogue 鶹AV’s Self Study Workbooks.

Two SCSD Ph.D students tied for 2nd place in the Speech Communication Poster Competition at the 174th meeting of the Acoustical Society of America, held in New Orleans December 4-8, 2017.
