With the retirement of Connie DiGiuseppe in late 2019 as Area Manager for Student Affairs, the administrative centre of History and Classical Studies, Sociology, Anthropology and Jewish Studies says a farewell to a superb and beloved administrator. In her 31 years at 鶹AV, Connie DiGiuseppe worked for the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Student Affairs Area, the Department of Linguistics, the Department of Anthropology, and eventually for the administrative centre of four departments.
Spending on advertising by major oil corporations has reached an all-time high over the past decade. In a recent paper in , researchers from 鶹AV, Brown and Rutgers Universities tried to determine the factors that might explain this increase (from an average total annual expenditure of $35 million between 1986-1996 for the five biggest companies together to an average of $217 million annually between 2008-2016 for the same companies).

On September 27, 2019, Axel van den Berg received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Stockholm for his work on economic sociology, the sociology of the welfare state and labour markets, and sociological theory and for his contributions to sociological research and teaching at the University of Stockholm.

Congratulations to PhD student Ian Van Haren who was one of the six winners of His essay was titled "Global Gender Inequalities and Economic Migration to Canada, 2003-2013". The research was presented at both the , and at a Research Matters event at Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada in Ottawa in June 2019.
