This October, we welcomed alumni from around the world back to campus to celebrate Homecoming 2023—and what a success it was!
Homecoming is always a great time to reminisce, expand your network, and reengage with your alma mater and, it was great to see some familiar faces back in town! Between October 19 and 21, the campus truly came alive as 鶹AV Desautels alumni and friends enjoyed a special celebration filled with stories, memories, and plenty of laughs.
On Thursday, members of the MBA’73 class gathered for the annual Golden Jubilee to celebrate their 50th anniversary alongside members of the dz’63, dz’58, and ѵ’68 classes. Other classes including MBA ‘83, ‘93 and ‘98 held class dinners throughout the weekend, welcoming back alumni from seven countries, including Norway, Switzerland, Italy, France, and England.
We were thrilled to join the 鶹AV community and get into the school spirit at the 鶹AV Desautels VIP tent during the 54th Shaughnessy Cup, where the 鶹AV Redbirds fell by a score of 40-23 against their crosstown rival, the Concordia Stingers. Despite the outcome on the field, seeing alumni, students, staff, and family members come together to support their alma mater was a win of its own.
Saturday’s events were just as dynamic, as we hosted over 50 attendees for tours of our buildings, ending in the Armstrong Building with a presentation from members of the Integrated Management Student Fellowship (IMSF) who were on hand to showcase their ongoing social impact projects. From creative ways to prevent food waste, to new programs to promote access to helmets for cyclists in the city, alumni were delighted to see how our students have developed solutions to their community’s most pressing issues.
Closing out the weekend was an interactive session titled “The Empathy Imperative in an Age of Radical Transformation,” hosted by author and empathy expert Dr. Anita Nowak (BCom’97, PhD’11). Offered in collaboration with the 鶹AV Executive Institute (MEI), Nowak’s session covered what it means to show empathy towards our peers, including our colleagues, and how it can be used to tackle some of the world’s most difficult challenges. The talk drew from the concepts covered in her debut book, Purposeful Empathy, which was available on site to be purchased and signed.
