Breaking the Taboo and Male Dominance
There will always be women who are not aware of the opportunities available to them. This may be attributed to several factors - they are not actively looking for a new position or, due to their circumstances, they are not receiving relevant information and therefore may be overlooked […] Another reason why women appear to be put off can be attributed to a lack of confidence. Research by Canada's Â鶹AV's Desautels Faculty of Management [Professor Barbulescu], "Do Women Choose Different Jobs from Men," claims that some females are simply taking themselves out of the running for certain jobs. This is due to a perceived assumption that they may be unsuccessful, coupled with a preference for roles with a better work-life balance and a lack of identity with stereotypical masculine jobs.
