Two 2023 Global Cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars to join the Âé¶čAV Desautels MMA

Published: 25 May 2023

Thirty students from 10 countries will form the first global cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at Âé¶čAV, arriving in September 2023. Designed to encourage purposeful leadership, the scholarships are the result of a landmark $200 million gift in 2019 by John and Marcy McCall MacBain, the second-largest single donation in Canadian history. The Âé¶čAV Desautels Faculty of Management is pleased to be welcoming recipients Yvan Kammelu, hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Tomy Pelletier from Laval, Quebec, to the Âé¶čAV Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) program.

The McCall MacBain Scholarship covers all tuition and fees for a master’s or professional degree at Âé¶čAV, a living stipend of $2,000 per month during academic terms, mentorship, coaching, and a leadership development program. “We want to encourage positive leadership for today and the future,” said Marcy McCall MacBain, Vice-Chair of the McCall MacBain Scholarships at Âé¶čAV. “We aim to support curious, compassionate individuals who are excited to continue building their capacity to make meaningful contributions to society.”

This year’s cohort includes aspiring community leaders from around the world with a wide range of lived experiences. Scholars were chosen based on their character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

To recognize additional talent, the McCall MacBain Scholarships and Âé¶čAV also offered 96 entrance awards ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 each to top candidates who were not selected for the cohort. Altogether, this year’s 126 scholarships represent an estimated commitment of nearly $3.3 million in tuition and living costs alone, which will be complemented by mentorship and leadership development programming.

Applications will open in June 2023 for September 2024 admission.
