In Memoriam: Agus Nuryatno (1970-2014)
The Faculty of Education mourns the loss of Agus Nuryatno, alumnus of our Department of Integrated Studies, who passed away suddenly on December 16 of 2014. Agus Nuryatno, who is survived by his wife Ani Dama Swari and children Fariz, Angga and Putri, was teaching and researching in Japan, as a Visiting Scholar, at the time of his tragic passing.
Agus Nuryatno completed his doctorate with the Faculty of Education at Â鶹AV, with funding from the (CIDA) and the Indonesian Social Equity Project (2006). He received his master’s degree from the Institute of Islamic Studies at Â鶹AV (2000), and his bachelor’s degree with the Faculty of Tarbiyah at , the Islamic University of Indonesia (1995). After achieving his doctorate with Â鶹AV’s Faculty of Education, Agus returned to Indonesia, where he served as Chair of the Faculty of Tarbiyah’s Department of Islamic Education and as Chair of the Department of Teacher Training for Primary School.
His work was published by Palgrave McMillan; the University of Tokyo Press; Convergence: The International Journal of Adult Education; and with Al-Jami’ah: Journal of Islamic Studies, where had served as editor. Agus was an Assessor with the National Accreditation Body for Higher Education, and was active with Indonesia’s socioreligious movement Muhammadiyah, the nation’s second largest Islamic organization with 29 million members, devoted to social and educational issues.
