Call for Research Participants: Paid Study in Endurance Runners

Participate in this study to investigate the acute independent effects of dietary protein supplementation on bone metabolism in healthy adults aged 18-35 years participating in high-volume endurance running.

Duration: One baseline visit followed by two trials of 2 days each (approximately 15 hours total).

Criteria: 1) Must be between the age of 18 - 35 years old 2) Running at least 40 km/week the past 6 months

Participate in a Research Study on Bone Health & Exercise Behaviours in Diabetes

Looking for adults aged 50 and above diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes to participate in a research study.

Participation involves one audio-recorded interview conducted via Microsoft Teams or by phone.

How Â鶹AV’s Leaders #InspireInclusion

Friday, March 8 is International Women’s Day, marking the achievements of women and serving as a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion – a message exemplified by Â鶹AV’s female leaders. At the moment, 10 of Â鶹AV’s 14 deans are women; three are the first to ever to lead their Faculty.

Caitlin Mazurek's Successful Doctoral Defense in KPE

On Friday, February 23, Caitlin Mazurek successfully defended her multidisciplinary PhD thesis titled "Knowledge creation and translation in sports biomechanics: applications in ice hockey."

Her research includes work on hockey skating coordination, academic and industry research partnerships in sports science, and implementing biomechanical analyses with a remote First Nation hockey team.

Matthew Slopecki Presents Innovative Wearable Technology Research to Aid Team Canada Paralympic Swimmers

Matthew Slopecki, Ph.D. candidate in the Biomechanics of Occupation and Sports Lab, recently presented his research on an innovative wearable technology approach to quantify performance and fatigue related changes in the movement patterns of Paralympic Swimmers.

He presented at both the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports "Mid-Year Symposium" and Institut National du Sports du Québec's conference series "The Ingenuity Behind the Performance".

BOS Lab's Luke Spagnuolo Receives Gord Sleivert Young Investigator Award

Luke Spagnuolo has received The Gord Sleivert Young Investigator Award at the 2023 Sport Innovation Conference.

Luke received this award for his thesis project examining muscle fatigue in USports rowers which he presented at the conference in Halifax.

Silar Gardy of KPE Receives RSBO Fellowship Award

Silar Gardy, PhD candidate in the the DKPE's Musculoskeletal Health & Physical Activity (MPAct) Laboratory (Supervisor: Dr. Jenna Gibbs), has received a research fellowship from the RSBO Network (Réseau de recherche en Santé Buccodentaire et Osseuse).

Silar's research aims to understand the role of nutrition and exercise in preventing bone fragility in endurance-trained individuals and athletes.

Education is of utmost importance for the development of both individuals and societies. It is an integral part of shaping one’s character and strengths, fostering respect for the rights of others, and instilling a desire for knowledge and excellence.

Prospective Undergraduates Eligible for up to $12,000 with Â鶹AV Canada Award

On December 19, 2023, Â鶹AV announced it is launching a $3,000 Canada Award to offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec in certain disciplines. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to Â鶹AV will be eligible for the new award.

Professor Julie Côté Receives a University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education's 2023-24 Alumni Award

Professor Julie Côté, KPE and SASSI, was recently announced as a winner of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Education 2023-24 Distinguished Alumni Awards. The award recognizes alumni across the 10 Departments of the School, which ranks among the top 3 Education schools in the United States, who have made outstanding contributions to their field.

Rachel Shapiro Wins First Place Blitz Presentation at the 8th Edition Metabolic Disorders and Complications (MeDiC) Research Day

KPE’s Rachel Shapiro, 2nd year MSc Candidate (supervisor: Dr. Jenna Gibbs), won the first place blitz presentation at the 8th edition Metabolic Disorders and Complications (MeDiC) Research Day hosted by the Research Institute of the Â鶹AV Health Centre (RI-MUHC). Rachel won for her presentation titled: Identifying Perceived Barriers, Preferences, And Information Needs Related To Exercise For The Management Of Bone Health In Older Adults With Diabetes
