These past few months have shown us how climate change and extreme weather impact everyone. It is a reminder of how research, teaching, and environmental learning have become critical in building a society that values and protects our planet. Thankfully, we have our amazing students and alumni to keep us on track!Â
We had an incredible summer and start to the school year at the Bieler School of Environment. Some of our students spent their time diving into research projects, while our dedicated faculty continued gathering data and expanding their research to bring us closer to a greener future. This is why we’re here—it’s what we do and what we love.Â
These past few months we have witnessed hurricanes intensifying rapidly in the south, causing significant damage from the Caribbean all the way up to Montreal. We can all remember Debby’s summer deluge.Â
The time to act is now. Our school is working tirelessly to share our research, drive change, and inform policymakers about the urgent need for action. We aim to show that Canada can lead the way in international climate policy.Â
But let’s not forget, there is hope. Hope for a greener world and a better future for our children. This is what we strive for. Â
It is thanks to you—our alumni, students, and generous donors—that we can continue this vital work. Â
The school and I deeply appreciate your ongoing support. We hope that a story in this issue inspires you to find your own ways to help save our planet.Â
And now, after five years it has been a productive and enriching experience to serve as BSE director. It is now time to pass on the baton.
