The Research Division of the Department of Family Medicine presents "Tackling Healthcare Inequities in Urban Bangladesh", a research seminar by Alayne Adams, PhD.

Following decades of work as a global health nomad in Africa, Asia and Europe, Dr. Adams is thrilled to return home to Canada, having joined 鶹AV earlier this month from Georgetown University in Washington DC. From 2010 to 2016 she lived in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where she held the position of senior social scientist at the icddr,b, a reputed international population health research center. She was also involved in the founding of the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health, and its flagship Master of Public Health program, and continues to serve as Professor and Advisor to its Center for Urban Equity and Health. A social scientist by training, her current research interests span a range of demand and supply-side challenges that impede equitable access to urban primary healthcare in low and middle-income countries, and tackles the challenges of community engagement and mobilizing evidence-informed action. Other research foci include adolescent health and nutrition and the social determinants of health including issues of gender, social networks and place. She previously served as Executive Director of the Joint Learning Initiative on Children and HIV/AIDS, a global research-to-policy collaboration involving international and bilateral agencies, NGOs, foundations and northern and southern academic partners. During this talk, she will share research that investigates the determinants of health and healthcare inequities in urban Bangladesh and how they might be tackled.
