MURA signs Membership Agreement with MUNACA

MURA signed a formal membership agreement with MUNACA

On July 19, 2016, MURA signed a formal membership agreement with MUNACA (鶹AV Non-Academic Certified Association). This agreement comes into effect for the next membership renewal period beginning September 1, 2016.

By virtue of the agreement all current and former members of MUNACA who retire, may become members of MURA at no charge to the retiree. MURA will grant retiring members of MUNACA full membership at no cost, in exchange for an annual stipend paid to MURA by MUNACA.

This means that current MURA members, who were members of MUNACA when they retired, need not pay anything on the anniversary date for membership renewal, Sept. 1, 2016.

MUNACA is a union that is part of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, that represents clerical, technical and library support staff at 鶹AV.

Members of the MURA and MUNACA executives will work together to identify and contact MUNACA members who may have recently retired or who may be about to retire, to explain the benefits of MURA membership.

This agreement is the third formal membership agreement to be signed by MURA with a staff association or union, in the last three months. The other two are with SEU Local 800 – TRADES DOWNTOWN, and MUNASA, which represents administrative and support “M” staff. MURA also has an informal temporary agreement with MAUT with respect to the Retiree Section of MAUT – MAUT-RS.

MURA will continue dialogue with MAUT and also contact the other locals of the SEU in the fall with the objective of concluding similar formal membership agreements. Should a formal agreement be reached with MAUT, it would replace the temporary agreement currently running with respect to MAUT-RS.

Should existing MURA members know of retired colleagues who have not joined MURA and who were MUNACA members, MUNASA members or SEU Local 800-TRADES members when they retired, please tell them about these agreements. Also please encourage them to contact MURA, or alternatively, pass contact information onto MURA so that MURA may contact them.
