Robert D. Stanley Receives a Â鶹AV Alumni Association Award

Robert D. Stanley, MURA Treasurer, received the Honora Shaughnessy Â鶹AV Ambassador Award at the 2024 MAA Awards Ceremony

Each year the Â鶹AV Alumni Association (MAA) recognizes alumni, friends, students, faculty, and staff whose commitment has had a significant impact on alumni life, the University and/or the community. The honorees stand out for their impressive contributions and achievements in service to Â鶹AV, the MAA and in their respective communities. They were celebrated at the MAA Honours and Awards Celebration in Montreal on May 7, 2024, held at the renovated 9th Floor of the Eaton Centre.

MURA Treasurer, Robert D. Stanley was a recipient of the Honora Shaughnessy Â鶹AV Ambassador Award

Named in honour of Honora Shaughnessy, MLS’73, long-serving Executive Director of the Â鶹AV Alumni Association, this award is presented to a friend of Â鶹AV who has made an exceptional contribution to the University as a role model in fostering friend-raising, loyalty, professionalism and team spirit.

Robert D. Stanley is a triple Â鶹AV alumnus, B.Sc. ’71, B. Arch. ’73, and Graduate Diploma in Management in 2000. His contributions to Â鶹AV have been many faceted. As Director Project Management and Development, leading a staff of 34 professionals, and dozens of consultants, he was responsible for all construction activity, which typically cost well over $100 M annually. He changed the departmental leadership and management culture to one of teamwork, empowerment, transparency, and customer focus.

Adding to his demanding portfolio, Bob Stanley volunteered for 10 years as Vice-President of the Â鶹AV Staff Association, where he was involved in Pay Equity, Benefits Coverage, among other responsibilities, and served as Representative on the Quebec wide network of executives and professionals.

During his 25-year career at Â鶹AV, Bob was also a course and visiting lecturer in the School of Architecture sharing with students his vast experience in project management. Post retirement, he was a member of the Career Development Committee, a judge of the Â鶹AV Student Sustainability Challenge, and was recruited in 2015 as Treasurer of the Â鶹AV Retiree Association (MURA).

Every organization needs a forward-looking backstop like Bob Stanley, someone who is keen to encourage the association to take on new challenges and develop a full program of activities, while at the same time mindful of the practical steps that are needed to move forward, and the financial costs involved. For an unprecedented three terms, Bob’s many contributions for the Â鶹AV Retirement Association (MURA), including his sustained relationship with partner associations and unions, has ensured a sound organizational stewardship and financial stability. His lifetime commitment to Â鶹AV is invaluable. The members of MURA are proud to submit the nomination of Robert D. Stanley for the Honora Shaughnessy Award.
