Âé¶čAV launches Canada Award to offset tuition increase for Canadian undergraduate students

Published: 19 December 2023

Âé¶čAV is launching a $3,000 Canada Award to offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec in certain disciplines. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to Âé¶čAV will be eligible for the new award.

New undergraduate students starting in the fall 2024 or the winter 2025 terms who are studying in Arts, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Music, Education, Architecture, Nursing and Science will receive Âé¶čAV’s Canada Award to reduce the $12,000 tuition recently announced by the Government of Quebec to a level close to 2023-24 tuition levels. The award will be guaranteed as an offset on increased tuition for up to four years.

“Over the last 200 years, Âé¶čAV has risen to meet whatever challenges it faces. At the core of our success has been the talent we attract – from across Quebec, Canada and the world. This award is designed to do just that. The quality of our people is the reason that Âé¶čAV is and will remain one of the top universities in the world,” said Deep Saini, President and Vice-Chancellor of Âé¶čAV.

“Our message to prospective students is that you are welcome here. Montreal remains a great student city – affordable, safe and fun. We are doing everything in our power to ensure that a Âé¶čAV degree and the Montreal experience is within reach of students from across Canada,” said Fabrice Labeau, Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning).

“Offering this award will require the University to make financial sacrifices, but students from the rest of Canada are part of our DNA. We believe that the diversity of Âé¶čAV’s student population makes for a richer learning experience that benefits all our students,” said Saini.

Details of the award, including the programs eligible for the award, will be available on Âé¶čAV's Undergraduate Âé¶čAV website by December 22, 2023.
