A special virtual ceremony was held last spring to recognize Excellence in Supervision and Preceptorship at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) during the 2021-2022 academic year. The ceremony shone a spotlight on the preceptors and supervisors who advance the school’s teaching mission by mentoring students at all levels and providing them with stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning experiences.
As noted by Professor Anita Gagnon, Associate Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Director of the ISoN, “Award winners share several common traits. They act as positive role models, demonstrate excellence in teaching, provide a supportive learning environment and encourage students to achieve their personal best.”
The ceremony also marked the 10th anniversary of our Awards for Excellence in Preceptorship and Supervision and the very first year that preceptors of students in our BNI Online stream and supervisors of our Nurse Practitioner students were eligible for these awards.
Award-winning preceptors and supervisors were nominated by students and course coordinators. As one student noted in the comments section of the nomination form, “They have not only made me a better student and a better nurse but also made me feel incredibly welcomed.” Another student wrote, “They led by example with an inspiring mix of evidence- and strengths-based nursing care with all patients and families.”
The ceremony concluded with a round of applause for all the winners and a salute to our clinical partners who welcomed our students in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As noted by Louise Murray, Senior Academic Associate, Clinical Partnerships Office, “To our clinical partners, we cannot thank you enough for the work you do with our students, and behind the scenes to plan and organize these learning opportunities. It is with much pride and gratitude that we speak of the strengths of our collaboration, especially during this unprecedented health emergency.”
Loot bags containing certificates and swag items were delivered to the winners’ work sites prior to the start of the summer season.
Congratulations to all our award winners!
