Online Seminar - Patterns of premature ventricular complexes in the human heart

Friday, January 22, 2021 11:00to11:30

Recent studies suggest that patients with frequent premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) are at a higher risk for cardiac myopathy and sudden cardiac death. However, risk stratification for these patients remains a significant challenge and the mechanism generating PVCs in a given patient is usually unclear. In this talk, we demonstrate how analysis of long ECGs with frequent PVCs reveal robust patterns in individual patients as a function of heart rate and time of day. This facilitates the development and calibration of mathematical models based on possible mechanisms for the PVCs, which may help in risk stratification. We will also demonstrate how interactive web applications can aid with such large-scale data and model analyses more generally. Given the advances in wearable technology and the accompanying influx of temporal data, opportunities lie ahead in the development of tools for a dynamics-based personalized medicine.

This seminar will be given online via Zoom. Details in attached poster.
