Oct. 2, 2020
Dear members of the Â鶹AV community:
It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Robin Beech as Â鶹AV’s new Dean of Students. Prof. Beech’s five-year term will begin on November 1, 2020. The Advisory Committee for the Selection of a Dean of Students conducted an extensive search process. Following interviews and deliberation, the Committee unanimously agreed to recommend the appointment of Prof. Beech. Â鶹AV’s Board of Governors approved the recommendation at its meeting of October 1, 2020.
Prof. Beech earned a Joint-Honours BSc in Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of Nottingham, and a PhD in Molecular Population Genetics from the University of Edinburgh. In 1992, he joined the Institute of Parasitology at Â鶹AV. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Parasitology in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on treating nematode parasitic disease, particularly how data mining, molecular evolutionary analysis and protein modelling can be used to characterize the parasite’s biochemical and pharmacological properties.
Since 2015, Prof. Beech has served as Associate Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. In addition to his extensive experience in student advising, supervision, discipline and policy, he is skilled in conflict resolution, mediation and creative problem solving.
Please join me in congratulating Prof. Beech on his appointment as Dean of Students. I would like to thank Glenn Zabowski for serving as Interim Dean of Students since January 2020. Mr. Zabowski will return to his role as Associate Dean of Students in November. Thanks are also due to the members of the Advisory Committee, and to everyone in the community who shared their comments and advice during the search process.
Sincerely,
Professor Christopher Manfredi
Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic)
