Black Access Â鶹AV (BAM)
Black Access Â鶹AV (BAM) seeks to break structural and institutional barriers to Black people’s access to social work education and provide an avenue to address the racial disproportionality of social workers in the field. BAM aims at creating avenues to increase outreach, recruitment, retention, and graduation of Black students within the Â鶹AV School of Social Work.
Programs and Activities include:
- Support for potential Black students in the application and the admission process.
- Black social work students’ career and academic mentorship program
- Black Students’ talking circles
- Centering the voices of Black students
- Increase Black voices and representation in the Curriculum
- Professional development opportunities for Black Students
- Increase access to support and awarding of funding for Black students
- Partnering with community-based organizations that serve Black people, especially Black youth, and provide physical space in the School of Social Work to gather and host meetings and community events.
