Dr. Tarek Razek has been awarded the H Rocke Roberston Chair in Surgery

The Department of Surgery is very pleased to announce that Dr. Tarek Razek has been awarded the H Rocke Roberston Chair in Surgery.

Dr. Razek has served as Director of Adult trauma at the MUHC since 2004. The program has matured under his leadership, attracting outstanding surgical trauma trained recruits. It is now one of the best performing tertiary trauma programs in Canada as well as the largest provider of trauma education. Dr. Razek has made significant teaching contributions at all levels, including as Quebec Chair for the American College of Surgeon’s Advanced Trauma Life Support course and as international chair of the Definitive Surgical Trauma Course (DSTC) of the International Association of Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care.

Dr. Razek has made extensive leadership contributions in developing trauma systems locally, nationally and globally. He is currently serving as Chair of the Quebec tertiary trauma committee which oversees the Quebec trauma system with INESSS and the MSSS and regularly consult for INESSS on issues pertaining to the Quebec Trauma, critical care and medical transport systems. Nationally, he is the current president of the Trauma Association of Canada (TAC), having been a member of the executive for over 15 years. In this role he has participated in national trauma system guideline development and helped develop the standards used by Accreditation Canada. He is the region Chief for Eastern Canada for the Committee on Trauma of the ACS. Internationally, Dr Razek has worked with the WHO, the ICRC, surgical professional societies and ministries of Health developing and implementing academic, educational, and policy initiatives focused on improving trauma, critical care, and emergency medical systems around the world.

The Chair will support Dr. Razek’s academic and leadership work to continue to advance the Â鶹AV Trauma program on the regional, national, and global levels.
