Social Entrepreneurship


Overview

The Minor in Social Entrepreneurship will teach you how to conceptualize, develop, and manage successful new ventures, like social enterprises, not-for-profit organizations and cooperatives. You can apply to join the program after your first year at Â鶹AV.  

You will build the skills necessary to take on issues of social responsibility and environmental sustainability, and the know-how to develop products and services that can alleviate social problems.  

You can explore different social issues through courses in the Faculty of Arts, from international development, to social housing and cultural programming. Through targeted courses in the Faculty of Management, you will build a comprehensive set of management skills.  

This unique program will help you learn more about the causes you are passionate about, and figure out how you can make a difference in the real world.


Careers

Whether through international or local NGOs, or their own business start-ups, social entrepreneurs channel their passion and innovative spirit into creative solutions to important problems facing the world today.  Social entrepreneurs are often agents for social change, though your knowledge can lead you to a variety of exciting career paths.

  • Corporate social responsibility manager  

Student Experience

This minor has a strong emphasis on hands-on experience, either through an experiential course where you can create an entrepreneurial business plan or through an internship at an NGO or other social enterprise. 

SENT 499, the Social Entrepreneurship Internship, allows you to complete an internship relevant to the field while earning course credit. You will gain hands-on experience, network, and develop skills that can help you advance in your future career.
