Interdisciplinary Research Development Awards

°¿±¹±ð°ù±¹¾±±ð·É:ÌýMcCAIS serves as a mechanism for the university to bring a critically needed holistic approach to the many challenges and opportunities where AI and Society meet, by facilitating strategic integration of Â鶹AV’s various distributed strengths around the AI/Society interface, in both research and education. The purpose of these awards is to encourage interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and positively influencing the impact of AI on Society, necessarily drawing on not only technological aspects but also those related (but not limited) to arts, decision-making, health and oral health, law and policy.

Notes:

- Applications are open to members of all Â鶹AV faculties.

- Lead applicants must be active Â鶹AV faculty member.

- Teams must include primarily active members of Â鶹AV.

- Eligible costs are (i) HR compensation (stipends, salaries and benefits for students/post-docs) and (ii) research community engagement expenses (e.g. workshops, etc.). It is not intended for equipment purchases or course releases.

To discuss the alignment of ideas with the goals of this funding program, lead applicants are strongly encouraged to contact McCAIS (mccais.science [at] mcgill.ca) with an initial statement of interest as early as possible.

Exploratory Phase: for teams starting new collaborations and in the initial stages of exploring a convergent theme. Emphasis is on the exchange of knowledge and ideas necessary for determining future directions and their viability. Value and Duration: up to $10,000, One calendar year.

Proof of Concept: Aimed at well-formed teams building initial proof of concept around a well-defined convergent theme. Emphasis is on the implementation of a short program with a specific outcome, which will show viability for a full-scale convergent theme. Value and Duration: up to $20,000, One calendar year.
