The Faculty of Law and the Institute of Air & Space Law (IASL) are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Brian F. Havel as Director of the IASL.
Brian Havel is a Distinguished Research Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he currently directs the International & Comparative Law Program and the International Aviation Law Institute.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Leckey as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Â鶹AV, starting July 1, 2016. Â
Professor Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, and is currently a full professor and a William Dawson Scholar. He does research and teaches in the areas of constitutional law and family law, using a bilingual and transsystemic approach. He has received the Â鶹AV Law Students’ Association’s John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award (2009) and the Principal’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2010).
After many years of extraordinary service and scholarly commitment to Â鶹AV, our colleagues Paul S. Dempsey and Margaret A. Somerville will be retiring respectively on June 1, 2016, and August 31, 2016.Â
It is with regret that the Faculty of Law and the Institute of Air and Space Law must announce the passing of Dr. Nicolas Mateesco Matte, OC, QC, FRSC, CR, SRC, on April 13, 2016, at the age of 102. Throughout his distinguished academic career, Nicolas Mateesco Matte contributed to the development and better knowledge of international air and space law.
The Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL) of the Faculty of Law at Â鶹AV is seeking to fill a position of full-time Faculty Lecturer for the 2016-2017 academic year.
The position will be funded in part by the Erin J C Arsenault Trust Fund and the appointment shall be for an initial duration of one year, with a possibility of renewal at the discretion of the Dean and subject to budgetary resources.
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Ram Jakhu has been appointed Director of the Research Center and the Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL), for a one-year term that will begin on June 1, 2016, when the outgoing director, Professor Paul S. Dempsey, will be stepping down.
As in the previous five years, the Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL) of the Faculty of Law at Â鶹AV intends to appoint one or two Postdoctoral Research Fellow(s) during the 2016-2017 academic year.

To encourage innovation and stimulate interest in research among law students at faculties of Quebec civil law, the Paul-André Crépeau Center for Private and Comparative Law is launching a student poster contest.
The contest is linked to the conference that will mark, on 12 February 2016, the Crépeau Centre’s 40th anniversary, during which poster submissions will be displayed and the winners announced.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Richard Gold has accepted to serve the Faculty as Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) for a three-year term which started on September 1st, 2015.
A James Â鶹AV Professor, Richard Gold was the founding Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy. He teaches in the area of intellectual property, international intellectual property, comparative intellectual property, innovation policy and intellectual property management. His research generally focuses on the life sciences.
Professor Angela Campbell was recently appointed Associate Provost (Policies, Procedures and Equity) (APPPE). She will step into the role on September 1. The APPPE is one of two Associate Provosts assisting Provost Christopher Manfredi in top-level academic governance at Â鶹AV.
