Inspired by the fabled meeting place in ancient Rome, the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) Forum is founded on the principles of inclusive citizenship and deliberative democracy. The Forum aspires to create a space for learning from the past, deliberating about the present, and building a common future together.

The CHRLP Forum aims to bring rich and plural insights on the concept of solidarity through engagement with diverse theories of change and ideas of justice.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that it will welcome four new members in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Joshua Nichols will join the Faculty on 1 August 2021 as an assistant professor. Sarah Riley Case will begin a one-year term as a Boulton Junior Fellow on 1 August 2021, before taking up the role of assistant professor effective 1 August 2022. Priya Gupta will begin as an associate professor on 1 August 2021, following a year-long term as a Senior Wainwright Fellow.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Samuel Gale Professor Robert Leckey, BCL/LLB’02, has been reappointed as dean. Dean Leckey’s reappointment, approved by the Board of Governors at its meeting on 10 December 2020, is effective 1 July 2021 for a term of five years.

Dean Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, where he teaches and researches in constitutional law, family law, and comparative law. From 2014 to 2016, he served as director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law.

We are pleased to share that Professor Emeritus the Hon. Irwin Cotler, OC, OQ, PC, BA’61, BCL’64, LLD’19, has been named Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism by the Prime Minister of Canada. Professor Cotler is the first incumbent of this role aimed at preserving the stories of Holocaust survivors through younger generations, and working to promote and defend pluralism, inclusion, and human rights.

The O’Brien Graduate Fellowships were established in 2005 through a very generous gift from David O’Brien, BCL 1965, for newly admitted outstanding Masters or Doctoral students studying in the area of human rights and legal pluralism in the Faculty of Law, Â鶹AV.

Â鶹AV’s graduate programs in law are the most extensive in Canada. Courses draw upon the civilian and common law traditions, but also include diverse legal traditions, legal theory, international law, environmental law, health law, human rights law, comparative private and public law, and air and space law.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce changes in the leadership of three research centres. Professor Richard Gold has been appointed director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP), effective 1 September 2020. He will take over from Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Moyse, who served in the role since 2011.
