Remembering the Victims of the École Polytechnique Massacre

Published: 5 December 2023

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women holds an immense significance as we reflect on those who have experienced gender-based violence and pay tribute to those who tragically lost their lives. It has been over thirty years since the tragic murder of 14 young women at École Polytechnique de Montréal — Canada’s deadliest femicide.

Every year, on December 6, we remember:

  • Geneviève Bergeron
  • Hélène Colgan
  • Nathalie Croteau
  • Barbara Daigneault
  • Anne-Marie Edward
  • Maud Haviernick
  • Maryse Laganière
  • Maryse Leclair
  • Anne-Marie Lemay
  • Sonia Pelletier
  • Michèle Richard
  • Annie St-Arneault
  • Annie Turcotte
  • Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz

As we solemnly remember their lives and mourn their loss, our commitment at iMPACTS is unwavering in the face of persistent acts of violence and misogyny against women and girls. Together, we can strive to stand against and overcome these systemic barriers, fostering a society where such tragedies become relics of the past.
