Artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to create chatbots that mimic a specific human being – even if that human being is no longer with us. An AI companion that mimics lost loved ones could help people process grief and ease the loneliness that comes with the loss, says Emmanuelle Vaast, Professor of Information Systems and Associate Dean of Research at Â鶹AV Desautels.

Bachelor of Commerce student Nikki Tye is the recipient of the Â鶹AV Collaborative for AI & Society (McCAIS)’s Undergraduate Research Award (McURA) for Summer 2024. The $8,700 award, aimed at promoting interdisciplinary AI research in society, recognizes Nikki's project on "Protecting the Amazon Forest from Illegal Activity through Image Recognition and Operations Research: A Partnership with JungleKeepers and Peruvian Indigenous Communities."

This year, the 13th iteration of the tour visited Egypt and Morocco – two of the largest and most important economies in Africa, and critical gateways to Europe and the Middle East.

Professor Alain Pinsonneault named to SAQ Board of Directors
In January 2024, Prof. Alain Pinsonneault was appointed to a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the Societé des alcools du Québec (SAQ). The Distinguished James Â鶹AV Professor brings expertise in information technology management and business digitization to the SAQ, which sells beer, wine and spirits at more 400 locations throughout Quebec.
