Sending Official Transcripts

  • Advanced Placement (AP)

You must ensure that Â鶹AV receives your final exam results directly from the College Board.

Credits will be officially granted by the admissions office once final official results are received. Students will remain in U0 until credits are granted. Course selection will be finalized at the start of classes—September. You will not be able to register for MGCR courses on your own, so please contact the BCom office for advising help after the AP credits appear on your transcript. Advanced standing is granted for Advanced Placement (AP) examination results of '4' or better, to a maximum of 30 credits.

Building your schedule

Students receiving at least 24 credits

You will be permitted to register as a U1 student for the courses in the Management Core curriculum, based on the results of these examinations. The Faculty of Management grants a maximum of 30 credits for Advanced Placement Examinations.

  • Before registering for courses you MUST declare a major. You may change your major at any time in the future.
  • Build your schedule for both Fall and Winter:
    • Register for mandatory MATH courses based on your credits/exemptions granted upon admission.
    • As a U1, your first year is dedicated to taking Core courses, to help determine your interest and confirm your specialization.
    • MGCR 233 and MGCR 250 MUST be completed in your first year.
    • MGCR 271/MGCR 341 and MGCR 293/MGCR 294 are corequisite courses. They can be taken together in the same term, or separately in different terms where MGCR 271 and MGCR 293 must be completed first.
    • There are many sections offered for our Core courses and they are interchangeable between terms.
  • A typical full-time course load is 12-15 credits per semester. Scholarship/awards may require more. Review our Course Load information.
  • To lighten your course load, you can start by registering for 12 credits, or you can opt to take a non-management elective or a Minor course, instead of a Core course. But you must be mindful of your credit allocation and requirements for your degree.

Important Notes:

  • Students interested in our HIM program must complete MGCR 211, MGCR 271 and MGCR 341 in their first year, to be eligible to apply.
  • Students pursuing the Major in Economics must replace MGCR 293 with ECON 230D1/D2 and MGCR 294 with ECON 332 & ECON 333 (taken in 2nd year). Meet with a BCom advisor and an Economics advisor for more details.
  • Students pursuing the Major in International Management should start their Language Component in their first year.
  • If you've taken university-level courses prior to joining Â鶹AV and are expecting credits/exemptions, DO NOT register for the same courses offered at Â鶹AV. Please contact the BCom office for assistance with your registration.

Students receiving less than 24 credits

Your credits must be indicated on your transcript, or advisors cannot help you register.

For every 3 credits of advanced standing you have been granted, you can request a management core course, space permitting. Email bcom.mgmt [at] mcgill.ca to receive registration permits for courses for which you're not able to get into, providing there is still room. You will need to register for the courses on your own once you have the permit for the course.

You are permitted the following Core Management courses:

  • MGCR 211 Intro to Financial Accounting *
  • MGCR 222 Intro to Org Behaviour *
  • MGCR 293 Managerial Economics (after completion of Calculus)
  • MGCR 352 Principles of Marketing *
  • MGCR 331 Information Technology Mgmt
  • MGCR 382 International Business

*permit already granted, you may register

PRO

CON

  • You can get started on your core courses in your freshman / foundation year
  • You will have to declare a major/concentration/minor sooner and better plan your future studies.
  • Your second year might be challenging to find courses because many courses are restricted to U2, U3 students when you will only be U1.
  • You need to be ready to encounter scheduling challenges in the future and you need to be flexible in taking other courses (ex. electives).
