Students who take part in the international exchange program experience the socio-economic, commercial and cultural contexts of another country while earning academic credit. This is accomplished by studying at a leading university located in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Middle EastÌýor theÌýAmericas for one semester during the second year of the MBA program.
Desautels MBA studentsÌýhave a unique opportunity to study abroad atÌýsome of the world's leading business schools. Here is where it all begins.
→ Where can I go?
We have partner schools around the world in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North America. Our complete list of partner schools can be found here.
→ When can I go?
You can go on exchange in yourÌýsecond year, in the Fall or Winter term.
→ Do I have to apply to go on exchange? How does the application process work?
Yes, you do need to apply to go on exchange. The application process takes place in February and March of your first year. Selection is based on academic performance in the MBA program to date, as well as how the exchange school you've chosen fits with your academic and career goals. Once you receive your exchange offer, you will be asked to accept the offer and payÌýa non-refundable deposit of $500, which will offset your tuition for the term you are on exchange.
→ How many courses am I allowed to take on exchange?
You must take what the host school considers to be a full-time course load. Each school has a minimum and maximum course load for exchange students. Our exchange program coordinator will be able to discuss your situation with you to help you plan out the completion of your degree. Students normally take the equivalent of 12 Â鶹AV credits on exchange.
→ Can I fulfill my concentration requirements on exchange?
You may take one course toward your concentration on exchange, but it cannot beÌýeither of theÌýtwo required courses.
→ If I go on exchange, will I graduate with the rest of my class?
Students going on exchange in the Fall term will typically graduate in May/June; if you go on exchange in the Winter term you will most likely graduate in October/November.
→ What do I have to pay for when I go on exchange?
You will continue paying tuition to Â鶹AV for your exchange term as usual. However, you may be required to pay certain student services fees to your host school, as well as pay for books and materials. You are also responsible for your travel to and from the host school country as well as living expenses.
→ I would likeÌýto attend DesautelsÌýforÌýan exchange term. What is my first step?
If your school has an exchange partnership with us, please contact your academic advisor or exchange program coordinator. They will be able to advise youÌýconcerning your next steps. Consult our list of partner schools.
→ What if I want to come to Desautels on exchange but my school is not one of your partners?
Let your school know about your interest. If your school is interested in establishing a partnership with us, they can contact us directly.
→ Do I need to meet any special requirements?
You must be in your final year of a graduate program, and must have a high English proficiency. YouÌýshould also have at least 2 years of full-time work experience following your undergraduate degree.
→ When can I come to Desautels on exchange?
You are welcome to join us in either the Fall (September to December) or Winter (January to April).Ìý
→ What happens after I am selected by my school?
Your school will send your contact details to our MBA Office, who will then contact you. You will be given instructions for completing the online application, how to register for courses, as well asÌýhandy information on living and studying in Montreal.
→ Will I need a study permit or CAQ?
Since your program of study is less than 6 months, you do not need a study permit or CAQ, which are documents required for longer programs of study. You should consult with your local Canadian embassy, however, as you may be required to apply for a temporary resident visa, depending on your country of citizenship.Ìý
→ Where will I live?
Most of our students live in apartments downtown in order to be close to the campus. Â鶹AV’s Off-Campus Housing office lists available apartments or rooms for rentÌýas well as accommodation options for exchange students.Ìý
Â鶹AV has agreements withÌýapproximately 30Ìýworld-class universities located in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North America. Â鶹AV was also the first Canadian member of Partners in InternationalÌýManagement (PIM), a consortium of outstanding educational institutions offering graduate level degree programs.
Â鶹AV expects to exchange with the following schools:
