Course Evaluations

Course Evaluations

Near the end of each semester, students participate in the course evaluation process, which gives students an opportunity to provide feedback on their courses. These course evaluations are used to help instructor improve their courses and to inform students about courses and instructors. ÌýStudents use the Mercury online course evaluation system to complete these course evaluations sometime during the last few weeks of class (the evaluation period may extend into the final exam period for some departments / schools). The evaluations are anonymous, and results are not released to instructors until final grades have been submitted.

NOTE: Your evaluation is an important mechanism used by your instructor, department/school and the Faculty for making improvements to your courses and to the overall teaching program. Course evaluations also form an important part of a professor's teaching portfolio, which is required by the University administration for tenure and promotion decisions. Your responsible, thoughtful, and constructive feedback is much appreciated. The results of the evaluation will be carefully reviewed by the chair/director of the department/school.

Students are highly encouraged to read and apply the Student Guidelines on Course Evaluations, available here.

Faculty of Engineering Course Evaluations

Below are the course evaluations which are currently being used for most courses in the Faculty of Engineering. These evaluations were approved in May 2008 and have been used since Fall 2009.

Your comments about these evaluations are welcome. Please send your comments to information.engineering [at] mcgill.ca. Undergraduate students can also contact the EUS VP-Academic (vpacademic [at] mcgilleus.ca), who will forward your comments to the Engineering Committee on Teaching and Learning.

Instructions on how to access the Mercury online evaluation system are available for students, instructors, Teaching Assistants, and unit heads.
