Program Advising Information

Â鶹AV

Several professors in the Department of History and Classical Studies are designated program advisors. Program advisors provide information about the undergraduate programs and courses offered by the department, advise on academic and career planning, help program students track their progress through theÌýprogram,Ìýand (for graduating program students) approve their programs for graduation. In addition, advisors approve transfer credits.ÌýAdvisors hold specific office hours for advising, including additional hours each semester during the add-drop period, for drop-in meetings, or you can schedule an appointment.

History Program Advising

History program students are encouraged to meet with an advisor at least once a year to track their progress and plan their courses. Program students must fill out the correctÌýHistory Program Advising/Audit Form and bring it to all advising appointments. The Advising/Audit form is usefulÌýfor organizing your courses; your advisor will also use it to record special notes, exceptions, and permissions that affect your program. Keep your advising form for your records, and also keep any relevant communications with advisors (e.g. emails).Ìý

Graduating program students: By the end of course add/drop inÌýyourÌýlastÌýterm (or sooner if your courses are set or you have already completed your program) bring your completed Audit Form to your advisor. They will verify that you have fulfilled all program requirements pending final grades in unfinished courses.ÌýYour advisor will then sign the form,Ìýindicating that you are recommended for graduation for the history component of your degree. Once your program has been approved by the advisor, emailÌýundergrad.hcs [at] mcgill.caÌýwith the signed form, or the form accompanied with an email confirming your advisor has approved it.

Meet with your assigned advisor: History program advisors are assigned to students based on the student's last name (see below).Ìý
