Support Program

"I think the MIF is really helpful because there are regular meetings with mentors who provide us with advice on topics like how to build a business model, or how to go forward with patents."

The Support Program is a 12-month journey where recipients will have the opportunity to bring the business side of their project to the next level. It has been designed to surround recipient teams with experts in various business-related fields (marketing, finance, business development, etc.) to provide them with guidance and expertise adapted to their needs. Key components of the support program are:

  • The development of a personalized roadmap. This plan sets out specific milestones for the team to aim for over the course of the 12 months, with concrete steps to take for each milestone.
  • The creation of a recipient advisory board. These boards are composed of ecosystem volunteers, all of whom are selected for their relevant entrepreneurial experience. Boards meet six times during the 12 months.
  • Access to a subsidized student internship program (subject to availability). Interns can be assigned a number of crucial enterprise-building tasks.
  • Lunch & learn sessions dedicated to specific business topics, with experts discussing issues in a panel format.
  • Check-ins with an MIF representative on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Other animation activities, such as workshops, networking events, etc., as well as gain skills and knowledge that are critical to the success of their business.
  • The possibility of finding mentors through the platform
  • The chance to work with Desautels Faculty of Management students through their experiential learning program

Although the financial support offered by the MIF can be among the largest available at the University, it is the advice and guidance offered in the support program that often results in more substantial result for successful teams. Check the rest of the pages in this section for more details on these facets of the MIF.
