Renewing Immigration Documents

If your immigration documents have expired, you cannot resume your studies unless you have  or you have obtained a new CAQ and Study Permit. All international students are responsible for maintaining valid immigration documents and legal status throughout the duration of their program of studies.

Renewing Immigration Documents:

(Less than 6 months) continuing studies to the second term
Degree Student
(Undergraduate & Graduate) continuing studies in the same degree or new degree

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)* *If applicable. These documents correspond to the nationality of the student. Check the  to find out if you need one to enter Canada. *ÌýONLY U.S. Citizens and permanent residents are exempt from needing an eTA or a TRV

Important tips:

  • ±Ê²¹²õ²õ±è´Ç°ù³ÙÌý- Your study permit and temporary resident visa (TRV) cannot be issued past the expiration date of your passport. Renew your passport at least 6 months before it expires. Check this to find your country's closest Consulate or Embassy.
  • Depending on when your study permit and your TRV (if applicable) expire, you may need to remain in Canada while your applications are processing. For more information, see Study Permit FAQs > Current Students > Question #6.
  • Keep records - Ensure that you keep photocopies and/or digital copies of all application forms and supporting documents that you send to Immigration Canada and Immigration Québec.
  • Send new immigration documents to Â鶹AV. Once your CAQ and study permit have been renewed, submit copies of these to Â鶹AV's Legal Documents.
