Hiring Co-op Students

  • Co-op duration: 4 months (13-16 weeks required) and 8 months (28-32 weeks required). Most senior students work from May-December. A May-August placement would be the first half of this period, followed by students applying for a September-December job opportunity.
  • General Course Background: Structure of Materials, Mineral Processing, Thermodynamics, Heat balances, Mass balances, Heat and Fluid Flow, Phase Transformation in Materials, Extractive Metallurgy, Modeling and Automatic Control, Hydrometallurgy, Steelmaking, Mechanical Properties of Materials, Ceramics, Electronic Properties of Materials, Polymer Engineering, Analytical and Characterization Techniques (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, ICP, X-Ray diffraction, Electron microscopy), Advanced Process Design for materials, Interface Engineering, Aerospace Materials, Sustainability.
  • When to post:  At the latest, 2 months prior to the start of a given co-op work term. For example, if you plan to hire a co-op student for the Summer work term (Summer work term starting date = May), you need to post your position by March 1st at the latest. if you plan to hire a co-op student for the Fall work term (Fall work term starting date = September), you need to post your position by July 1st at the latest. If you plan to hire a co-op student for the Winter work term (Winterwork term starting date = January), you need to post your position by November 1st at the latest.
