Career Coaching
Throughout the program, students can attend one-on-one career coaching appointments. Appointments cover a range of topics including job search strategies, resume and cover letter critiques, and interview preparation and debriefs, LinkedIn profile reviews and networking preparation.
Workshops
The Max Bell School offers a range of applied skill building workshops complements the Master of Public Policy (MPP) coursework. Topics include persuasive writing, conflict resolution, unconscious biases in the workplace, and data interpretation. High profile guest speakers provide real world cases while consultants design innovative content for the advanced learner.
The 鶹AV community offers several career and skill building workshops throughout the year. Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) organizes Skillsets for graduate students which hosts a wide range of skill building and career related workshops and events. Employer Connections
On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) provides students with the opportunity to learn more about specific employers, the positions they have available, and the recruitment process. Max Bell Career Services hosts in-house information sessions and MPP students have access to university wide sessions through (sign-in required)
Policy & Recruitment Sessions gives MPP students a glimpse into policy issues that are being tackled as well as an opportunity to learn about each organization, their sector, and their work culture.
Speed Mentoring Events take place throughout the year, MPP students learn about ten different career paths and make valuable connections.
Coffee Chats with Professionals provides MPP student with the opportunity to speak informally one-on-one to professionals in organizations they are interested in learning more about. The Career Services staff works with students individually to set up these informal coffee chats.
Mentoring programs
The career team works with our MPP students develop career management skills and seek out professional opportunities that correspond with their skills and interests. Our mentorship programs is an integral part of this process.
Max Bell School Mentorship Program
MPP students are paired with senior-level professionals in relevant fields, with whom they meet regularly to discuss career options and develop skills. Mentorship is a valuable opportunity for students to learn from an experienced professional and explore career possibilities.
MPP students also have access to a database of “micro-mentors,” entry-level to mid-level professionals in relevant fields who are available for one-time mentoring sessions on a range of specific skills. This two-tiered approach ensures that students have access to a diverse set of mentors throughout the MPP program by combining two distinct types of mentorship.
Onyx Initiative
The is a Canadian organization created for Black college and university students to directly access paid internships and roles within their chosen fields. This mentorship and training program pairs students and recent graduates with industry professionals to prepare for interviews, refine transferable skills, and develop the necessary tools to succeed within corporate Canada. 鶹AV Mentor Program
Max Bell students also have access to the 鶹AV Mentor Program, offered by University Advancement and Career Planning Service. This program pairs students with experienced 鶹AV alumni from all disciplines for a two-month mentoring relationship.
Student Wellness & Student Services
MPP students have access to a range of wellness services on campus. The university Wellness Hub offers appointments with nurses, doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists.
MPP students can also meet with one of the university’s Local Wellness Advisors (LWAs), trained clinicians who connect students to wellness resources and offer workshops on relevant topics.
The university Office for Students with Disabilities can provide various accommodations to students experiencing academic obstacles due to a disability.
