MIMM 211 Biology of Microorganisms

Description

This introductory course in microbiology gives a basic and general introduction to the world of microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and parasites with particular emphasis on the properties of procaryotic cells and viruses. The fundamental principles of bacterial cell structure and organization, microbial genetics and molecular biology are also introduced in this course. Students will acquire general knowledge and understanding of the microbial world that will serve as the foundation required to take more advanced courses in Microbiology, Virology and Parasitology. This U1-level course is a cornerstone of the Bachelor program in Microbiology and Immunology and thus serves as a prerequisite for several U2- and U3-level courses given in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. However, this course also provides a broad and general introduction to world of microorganisms to students majoring or not in other general science program.
