Large Ensemble Placement Form 2024-25 (Orchestral Instruments)

This form is required for all students who plan to participate the Â鶹AV Symphony Orchestra, Â鶹AV Wind Orchestra, Â鶹AV Contemporary Ensemble or the String Quartet Seminar for fall or winter term (even if you are exempt from the audition). This audition will also be used for your small ensemble placement.

Strings:

  • Violin, viola, cello: The placement audition for large ensembles is mandatory for all new incoming students (undergraduate and graduate, except D.Mus.), including former students who are returning for a new degree. All other violin, viola and cello students only need to take the audition if they want to be considered for principal positions.
  • Double Bass: The placement audition for large ensembles is mandatory for all new and returning students. (Undergraduate and Graduate, except D.Mus.).
  • Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion: The placement audition for large ensembles is mandatory for all students who wish to register for a large ensemble

If you are not able to attend the live audition, please contact the ensemble office as soon as possible to receive instructions for recorded auditions. In order to submit a recorded audition, you must provide a valid reason for your absence and have it approved by your department.

Name and Program Information

All Â鶹AV large ensembles rehearse a condensed schedule of MTWRF from 9:05-11:25am and attendance is mandatory. Absences are approved only in rare circumstances. Please confirm that you are able to commit to this course schedule before auditioning.
