Outpatient Sedation

Intravenous sedation is a technique to provide comprehensive control of pain and anxiety during surgical procedures. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons spend a significant period of their training rotating in anesthesia to acquire the skills necessary to provide outpatient sedation for their patients. As a result of their extensive training, oral and maxillofacial surgeons have a long history of providing anesthesia to their patients in a safe manner.

At the MUHC, the oral and maxillofacial surgery service provides intravenous sedation in an outpatient setting to patients requiring a wide array of minor surgical procedures including reduction of facial fractures, dentoalveolar surgery, dental implant surgery and bone grafting procedures.Ìý This option provides patients with a safe and comfortable alternative to receive their care in a hospital environment.Ìý
