The Redpath Museum is an independent unit of the Faculty of Science at Â鶹AV. Its mission is to foster an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of our biological, geological and cultural heritage through scientific research, collections study and education.Ìý
Built in 1882 by Canada's foremost Victorian naturalist, Sir William Dawson, it has its own faculty and offers courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as a minor in natural history.Redpath Museum - Accessibility Of Building
Project Description:
This project aims to correct and provide universal accessibility to the Redpath Museum. Included in the scope is the installation of an entrance at ground level, installation of an elevator, renovation of existing bathrooms, addition of UA bathrooms and analysis of UA in exhibit areas.Ìý
ÌýDesigns for Project 18-116 (Redpath Museum - HVAC Upgrade) and for this project will be done at the same time.ÌýProject Scope:
As a public institution, the Redpath Museum is intended to provide educational value to the student population in addition to the general public without discrimination.ÌýÌýThe age and layout of the building makes accessibility a challenge to a number of people. In 2017, Â鶹AV was provided a subsidy for $4M to be allocated towards improving and removing barriers to universal accessibility.
Scope of Work:
- Installation of an entrance at the ground level.
- Installation of an elevator.
- Relocation of spaces impacted by the installation of the new entrance and elevator.
- Renovation of existing bathrooms and new bathrooms to meet universally accessible standards as defined by building code requirements.
- Analysis of universal accessibility in the exhibition areas.
Projects 18-001 and 18-116 (Redpath Museum – HVAC Upgrade) designs will be done at the same time.
