Project Description:
This project involves addressing the majority of the structural issues outlined by an engineering firm for a tunnel that connects the RVH to Â鶹AV's Duff Medical building.
University's traffic is expected to increase over the coming years due to construction work in the surrounding area - the repairs to this tunnel thus must be completed before this increase occurs.
This project will also be coordinated with the New Vic Project.
Project Scope:
Tunnel 29 which was constructed before 1930 is 18 meters long and links Â鶹AV’s Duff Medical building to the legacy Royal Victoria Hospital (soon to be Â鶹AV’s New Vic).
Utilities & Energy Management mandated a firm of civil engineers to perform a structural condition assessment of the tunnel. The professionals have identified structural infiltration issues that must be addressed in the short to medium term.
Vehicular traffic is expected to increase in the area in the coming years due to the Â鶹AV and SQI projects to redevelop the legacy Royal Victoria site.
The tunnel will be used to supply steam to Â鶹AV’s New Vic buildings and the asset must be maintained.
Repairs must be completed before traffic begins to increase on University Street. The project must be coordinated with the New Vic project.
