Applying to the program

Applications for the new academic year open on July 1.

How to apply

Check the eligibility requirements before you apply.

To apply, log in to :

  1. Select the Financial Aid/Awards tab
  2. Click on the Financial Aid Menu
  3. Apply for Â鶹AV Financial Aid
  4. Apply to Work Study
  5. Update your financial aid profile
  6. Submit your application

Work Study does not guarantee employment as hiring decisions are made by participating employers.

You can only submit one Work Study application in Minerva per academic year. Should your circumstances change, please email the work.study [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Work%20Study%20Student%20Application) (Work Study team).

When to apply

Applications open July 1 for the upcoming academic year and are assessed on a rolling basis, except during peak periods when recommended submission dates apply.

If you apply by early August you will know whether or not you have been accepted by the beginning of the Fall term and will have access to more jobs. 

You must reapply each year for Work Study participation.

July 7th, 2024 Week of August 4th, 2024 (for a start date of September 3rd, 2024)
July 28th, 2024 Week of August 11th, 2024 (for a start date of September 3rd, 2024)
August 11th, 2024 Week of September 1st, 2024 (for a start date of September 3rd, 2024)
September 1st, 2024 Week of September 22nd, 2024 (for a start date of September 3rd, 2024)

Applications submitted after the recommended dates will be assessed on a rolling basis.

View the status of your application

Student Aid decisions are displayed on your Minerva Work Study application. If accepted, you will have the ability to produce a Work Study Confirmation letter.  The letter will include the approved start and end dates for each applicable term to share with your prospective employers.  The letter is only valid for 30 days and can be reproduced as needed.  

To view your status, log in to :

  1. Select the Financial Aid/Awards tab
  2. Click on the Financial Aid Menu
  3. Under the Apply for Â鶹AV Financial Aid header, click on View status - if approved the letter will be displayed for you to print or save as a PDF file.

What happens next?

If you’ve been:

  • accepted: you can find out about the next steps.
  • refused: you can email the Work Study team if your circumstances have changed or if you have additional information that you would like us to consider.
