Â鶹AV

Our vision, mission, principles, and priorities

Vision

We aspire to being part of a university community in which teaching and learning is creative, evidence-informed, adaptable, inclusive, and transformative.

Mission

We provide leadership, coordination, and support for creating and sustaining meaningful teaching and learning experiences and environments for instructors and students.

Guiding principles

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are foundational to all that we do.
  • A focus on learning guides our decisions about teaching and learning.
  • We promote teaching excellence informed by scholarship and evidence.
  • We contribute to the evolving and dynamic areas of teaching and learning, workplace wellness, and effective administrative practices.
  • We are committed to working in partnership with the Â鶹AV community to achieve sustainable change.

Strategic priorities (2022 - 2025)

These priorities help us stay focused on our mission by guiding our actions.

  • Create strategies to identify and address known and emerging gaps in EDI at TLS and the University related to our mission, with specific focus on inclusive learning environments and pedagogical support for instructors with identities that have been marginalized.
  • Increase our collective knowledge about teaching and learning and support scholarship of teaching and learning initiatives, including the recognition of successes.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation and support of teaching and learning policies and practices, specifically focusing on the assessment of learning, an expanded repertoire of modes of teaching, and evaluation of teaching.
  • Provide leadership and support in planning and evaluating initiatives, policies, guidelines, and operations that contribute to the effectiveness of our work and the evolution of the educational development evidence base.
  • Structure, formalize, and grow partnerships with key stakeholders across Â鶹AV to ensure continuity, specifically with academic units and units supporting student success.

Â鶹AV is on land which has served and continues to serve as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. Teaching and Learning Services acknowledges and thanks the diverse Indigenous peoples whose footsteps mark this territory on which peoples of the world now gather. This land acknowledgement is shared as a starting point to provide context for further learning and action.
