As a part of the Department of Family Medicine, the PBRN is a network of Â鶹AV's primary care sites, intended to promote clinician-led research. Dr. Jeannie Haggerty is the Director (on sabbatical) and is being replaced by acting Director, Dr. Peter Nugus.

Reporting directly to the Enhanced Skills Director and the Family Medicine Program Director, the Family Medicine CFPC Palliative Care Program Director is responsible for overseeing the Palliative Care Enhanced Skills (ES) Program for the Department of Family Medicine. Beginning potentially as early as 2021, the Vallée-de-l'Or University Family Medicine Group (U-FMG) will have a new building to deliver its primary care services. The Quebec government, as announced by Minister of Health and Social Services, Danielle McCann on July 4, 2019, will fund the $9.8 million project.

On May 31, members of the Department of Family Medicine were invited to take a closer look at the clinical side of primary care through research projects presented by family medicine residents from the Department’s teaching units.

With topics ranging from Indigenous health to chronic pain management and urgent care, it was an important opportunity for trainees to share their findings with others on a variety of issues in their working environment and elsewhere. Each team was paired with a student member of the Graduate Studies division, commonly called “Tannenbaum fellows”.

On May 30, the Family Medicine Graduate Students’ Society (FMGSS) held the Family Medicine Research Symposium, bringing together faculty, students and community members to share and discuss current advances in research conducted in areas such as family medicine, community health, health technology, and health policy.

The Government of Canada announced the next phase of funding for the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA). From 2019 to 2024, CCNA will receive $46 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and 11 other partner organizations, including the Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC), and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).

On May 15, Â鶹AV medical students and family physicians gathered to celebrate the end of the academic year, in particular the conclusion of the Longitudinal Family Medicine Experience (LFME) course. For the last eight months, all 183 first-year medical students have been paired with a family medicine preceptor, providing them with early exposure to primary care.
