The Faculty of Law is proud to announce that Professor Robert Leckey, a William Dawson Scholar in the Faculty of Law and a member of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, has been elected to the Global Young Academy.

Based in Berlin, the prestigious Academy consists of more than 155 young, independent researchers from around the world, who come together to address topics of global importance during a four-year term.

The Faculty of Law of Â鶹AV is delighted to announce that starting January 2014, it will host The American Journal of Comparative Law, in partnership with the Georgetown University Law Center. Professor Helge Dedek, who is Director of the Institute of Comparative Law at Â鶹AV, has been named co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, together with two colleagues in Washington D.C.

We are happy to announce that the latest publication from the Crépeau Centre is (Cambridge University Press, 2013), which was edited by Professor Lionel Smith.

This collection of 22 essays makes a significant contribution to the comparative study of trusts. It includes contributions from Canada, the U.S., England, France, Scotland, South Africa, Israel and China.

The Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law is happy to welcome Vanessa Arviset as its new Assistant Director. She takes over from Me Régine Tremblay.

Me Vanessa Arviset, BCL/LLB’06, received the Osgoode Society Legal History Prize (2005) during her studies at the Faculty. Previously, she obtained a BA and MA in philosophy from the Université de Montréal. A member of the Barreau du Québec, Me Arviset practiced in Montreal in the fields of maritime law and commercial litigation.

John G. Murphy, managing partner at Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), is extremely proud of the efforts made by a team headed by H. John Godber (BCL'88, LLB'88) and Neil Hazan (BCL/LLB'02) to support Â鶹AV Faculty of Law’s Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. The fundraising activity, which brought in $400,000 from BLG’s lawyers and partners across Canada, ended this month.

On April 3, 2013, the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law launched three  new books and  a new resource website.

During a well-attended reception held in the Common Room, Professor Yaëll Emerich, interim director of the Centre, presented the books and a new database, and took the opportunity to warmly thank the many writers, editors, supporters and colleagues who participated in their preparation.

Professor Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law, has announced that Professor Yaëll Emerich has been named by the Provost of Â鶹AV as Acting Director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, from 1 January 2013 to 30 June 2013.

Justice Nicholas Kasirer
